Congratulations to the nominees for the 2013 Social Media Award…and no I am not there, my network and effort pales in comparison.
That being said, this is a great time and Iʻd like to open the discussion - Do you cast your vote by popularity or influence and because they are popular, does that make them influential? Just because they have lots of followers, does it mean they actually earned all of the followers, or were some bought? Not that itʻs necessarily a bad thing - to buy followers, but really what is the intention? Also, a couple of the people here just take pictures and tell the right story - is that really an influencer?
What is a social media influencer:
- Do we recognize them by the amount of Twitter or Facebook followers or friends they have?
- How have they changed or influenced peopleʻs perception of a subject, matter, or thing?
- Who are they influencing, is it a global, local, business, travel..all following crowds are not created equal, lots of transition in Hawaii and Social Media sites.
- Have they come up with new ideas on communicating, or are they regurgitating other peopleʻs ideas and making them their own.
While all these questions are ones that I ask when making my vote, I wonʻt be fooled by any number of fans, friends or impressions…Instead, my vote bends towards, a solid influence to their network, their online and offline community, creativity and the ability to produce solid original content; not just pictures or re-tweets.
In any case, Congratulations to all the nominees of the 2013 Social Media Hawaii Awards - with the nomination comes much responsibility…to get Votes!
